Happy Holiday and New Year!
Before we get to the final post from Mexico, I want to let you know about a couple of upcoming events. First, my new book, a collection of short stories (okay, and one poem) entitled The Unlikely Twins and More Stories is scheduled for release on February 1, 2024. In an upcoming post, I will provide more details.
I am also putting the finishing touches on a new website and blog that will be solely related to the books and short stories I have written. I want to separate that aspect out from this travel blog.
After Mérida and Valladolid, we visited the Tulum area but only for a weekend. Unfortunately, we had to cut our Mexico trip short and could not make it to Oaxaca and Pueblo. We will keep those on the list for next time.
The Tulum area was hot but beautiful. Our accommodations were outstanding although far from Tulum centro.
The water and the sunrises were breathtaking.
We also visited the ruins in the Tulum archeological zone. Hard to get the impact in photos. Even from this site, the views of the ocean were spectacular.
One of the more interesting phenomenon in all of the Yucatán are the cenotes. These are generally formed from the collapse of the very porous limestone that makes up much of the peninsula. Sometimes these take the shape of underground enclosed caves and others are partially or fully open from the top.

I've been to Tulum twice, once in March and once in late May. The ruins and stories about them fascinated me. It was comfortable in March and I was alone, so I wandered around for hours. A few years later, I brought my whole family in late May. It was so hot that even I didn't appreciate the ruins and views as I had before, and my family never saw the glory I did in the ruins.
