Well, so much for trying to write blog posts from my phone on this trip. It did not work. Over the next few months, I will submit some posts from the long adventure which began in Guayaquil, Ecuador on March 2 and ended in Bogotá, Colombia on May 13.
For the first leg, my friend, John Weems, and I spent roughly twelve days in the Galápagos staying on the three main islands - Isla San Cristóbal, Isla Isabela and Isla Santa Cruz.
Our introduction to the Galapagos was a three night stay in Hostal Cann's House on San Cristóbal. We flew to the island on Avianca after a brief overnight stay in Guayaquil.
Our first adventure was a walk up to El Junco, a lake on the top of one of the old volcanoes. If you didn't already know it, every island in the Galápagos is in some stage and form of volcanic rock.
First introduction to Darwin's many finches:
As we continued our first day tour to the "upper part" of the island (which really meant the only road beyond the main town of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno), we quickly discovered the giant tortoises and other island residents, as well as the unique beauty of the Galápagos.
Looks so peaceful. Love the tortoise and the spooning seals. Amazing.
