Jericó - Churches, Coffee and Another Beautiful Pueblo

ezflaw

Jericó is another Colombian pueblo patrimonio a couple of bus rides south of Medellín. The best choice is to take the bus that goes through Bolombolo. Depending on stops it will take 2-3 hours.

Although it is not technically part of the "triángulo de café" (coffee triangle), it is full of coffeeshops and small restaurants. It is also chock full of churches for which it is famous.

I visited during Semana Santa which is the holy week just before Easter. For primarily Catholic Latin American countries, it is a special time during which various religious ceremonies are countered by parties and festivals. Most of the ceremonies culminate in candlelight vigils during the final days before Easter.

Catedral Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes, which faces the central park, is the largest church in Jericó. Still just one of many churches in the area.

The colorful pueblo, its residents and the bars and cafes around the central park.

Café Don Rafa - one of the most popular in Jericó. Lots of digital nomads stake out a table here and in the other small cafes in town.

Views from around Jericó.
