On May 10, we had a full day of birding (around 13 hours!) with Otto Valerio from Amazonas Birding. This guy is an amazing and well-known guide in the area. He is the top eBird lister at several locations along the Colombia side of the Amazon. He does not speak English, but knows the name of every bird species in English. If you are going to be anywhere between Leticia and Puerto Nariño, Colombia, and you want a great birding experience, contact Otto. You can find his contact information when you search any of the birding hotspots in this area on eBird.

On May 11, we took a bit of a break from birding when we visited the indigenous reserve of Macedonia. We were treated to an authentic dance with music by the local community members who also make and sell many outstanding handicrafts.

Finally on May 12, we returned by boat to Leticia, then plane to Bogotá. We spent the night there and then dispersed on May 13 in our different directions. Finally, after nearly three months, my Galapagos, Ecuador and Colombia adventure came to an end. More to come in 2023.

Photos from birding between the small pueblo of Puerto Nariño as well as in the town. That community is roughly the western end of the Amazon in Colombia where the main river comes from within Peru to serve as the border between the two countries.
