Filandia - A Pueblo Under The Radar

ezflaw

After traveling for nearly two months and wanting to conserve energy for the Andes and the Amazon, I discovered Filandia in Quindío Province. Although I was not expecting much, I had read some about it and was very pleasantly surprised. It is located within the coffee axis (Eje cafetero) and only about 45 minutes south of Pereira. It sits at an altitude of over 6,000 feet but the weather is very pleasant.

It has not yet been overrun by throngs of foreign tourists but is a favorite of Colombians. As with all pueblos of similar size, the Catholic church faces the central park which is surrounded by cafes, bars and restaurants. I stayed at La Puesta del Sol. It is a fairly new spot and the family that runs it is cordial and helpful. It needs some work but hopefully with time it will turn into a very popular accommodation.

The usual brightly colored buildings around the pueblo.

Nice and clean parque central.

Typical Filandeño and one of my favorite dogs in Colombia.

Bustling activities around the park

Such a cute little Pueblo. The one pic of the park looks a lot like Grecia park!
