From Barichara, I was working my way to Bucaramanga where I would spend the night and take a flight the next day to Barranquilla. I took a mini-bus from Barichara to San Gil, then switched to the La Reina bus to Bucaramanga.
I somehow missed Chicamocha Canyon when planning my Colombia trip. In fact, it is one of the most impressive canyons in South America and the views from the bus are spectacular with many sharp, hairpin turns. I would recommend sitting on the right side of the bus if you are heading north from San Gil toward Bucaramanga.
I did not get to stop and visit the park which has a breathtaking tram over the canyon. It is on the list for my next visit.
I actually stayed in Girón on the southwestern outskirts of Bucaramanga. This was another pleasant surprise as it is also a heritage village and Macaregua Hotel Boutique is a great place to stay. This small community and the hotel have a completely different feel from the metropolis of Bucaramanga. Unfortunately, no pics of Girón or the hotel.
