Barichara is a heritage village ("pueblo") in northern Colombia in the Santander province. It is a beautiful village famous for its cobblestone streets and interesting architecture. I stayed for three nights and for me it was a much more interesting place than Villa de Leyva.
From Tunja, I took a bus to San Gil. Then I took a taxi to the smaller terminal (la terminalita) which has minibus service to Barichara less than an hour away.
The town is very manageable and it is fun to just walk around the main plaza and up and down any of the streets. One of the more interesting and challenging outings is the hike from Barichara to Guane (see the next post).
I spent three nights there and stayed in La Casa de Hercilia Boutique. No webpage that I can find so I have included the booking.com link. The place had lots of character, great location and nice, big rooms. Just a few blocks from the central plaza. Good breakfast included.

Barichara is famous for fried ants - yes hormigas culonas (big-assed ants). Not very tasty but you cannot visit without trying one (pic #7)
