Villa de Leyva is one of many pueblos patrimonios in Colombia. It is ln the Boyacá department, a short one hour bus ride west of Tunja. It has a mild climate and is located at just over 2,000 meters (7,000 feet).
As is the case with all pueblos patrimonios in Colombia, it is maintained in original pre-colonial and colonial styles both in terms of its cobblestone streets and its architecture.
It seems to have recovered from the pandemic. The place was pretty full of tourists during our weekend visit (Feb 9-12, 2023). Most visitors were from Colombia and it seemed that the great majority were from the Bogotá area.
A few photos from around the town are included below. The next couple of posts will also feature some of the local sights in the pueblo which is often referred to simply as "Leyva".
La Plaza Mayor
El Mercado Central - every Wednesday and Saturday
Chemex at cafetería Milhojas
Que Chiva! Me encantan los colores en el mercado.
The plazas are so open. great views. Looks like a great time was had by all!
Those plazas are so large. All the products in the markets look so tempting! As I watched the lady doing the coffee I thought it takes rhythm to do that job! Keep having fun, you two.
