Cuenca, Ecuador - Other City of Churches

ezflaw

I realize that most of the blog posts begin this way, BUT we loved Cuenca. The only issue is that, due to the relatively high altitude it can be a little chilly.

We have decided that after we complete our nine weeks in Mexico, we are going to prepare a post that lists briefly our five favorite and least favorite cities and our five favorite and least favorite accommodations. Stay tuned for that post.

Over the course of our time in Ecuador, we spent nearly three weeks in Cuenca. We visited many churches, plazas, ate in lots of restaurants and visited one important archeological site. It deserves more, but we will try to limit the Cuenca posts to three.

This first post includes photos of the many beautiful churches.

Cuenca has both an old cathedral and a new cathedral which are right across the central park from each other. Unfortunately, I do not have photos of the old cathedral but here are a few of the newer one. It is absolutely magnificent.

Iglesia San Blas. Very modern and we could see it every day as we walked from the historic center back to our hotel.

Iglesia de Todos los Santos and the nearby Río Tomebamba

More churches. If you want to know more about them, you will need to go visit!

What beautiful structures! Thank you for posting them. I am sure the photos doesn’t compare to seeing them in person. Really loved them all.

So many stunning churches. The stream is so lovely. Makes me miss the little stream I build in our backyard. Thanks for sharing and looking forward to the next post. Continued safe travels.
