We spent May 11-18 in Baños de Agua Santa. Baños is roughly a three hour bus ride south of Quito and about mid-altitude in the central Andes range in Ecuador (1820 meters/5,971'). Baños is famous for three things: (1) it sits in a bowl completely surrounded by mountains including dormant and active volcanos - the most famous of which is Tungurahua; (2) there are numerous public and private thermal pools in and around the town which are heated from the volcanos; and (3) a cascade route of at least seven magnificent waterfalls, including Cascada el Pailón.
Beauty is evident in every direction and from most any location in the area. We took in as many of the sites as we could.
Views from around the pueblo.
