After 15 months of straight traveling, Isabel and I decided to take a break for much of 2024. We are spending that time in Costa Rica and Texas. We have not been completely dormant as Isa spent several days in Guatemala with her daughter and I joined my family for a trip to Colorado and then friends from Austin on a birding trip to the Monteverde area in Costa Rica.
We expect to begin traveling again in 2025 and are in the process and putting together our plan. We will start in Chile in early-January where we expect to spend three months. Next we will return to Argentina to visit the beautiful but arid provinces of Jujuy and Salta in the northernmost part of the country near the border with Bolivia. We will likely spend only 2-3 weeks there before moving on to Uruguay.
Although we made a weekend trip from Buenos Aires to Uruguay late last year, that was not nearly enough time. In 2025, we want to spend a couple of months in the country.
From Uruguay, we will move on to Paraguay. We have not done any research yet, but we believe that two months there would allow us to cover most of the key locations.
After that, we will review are situation and decide what to do next. Since our trip to Mexico in 2023 was cut short, a return there is toward the top of our list. That will still leave untouched the countries of Peru and Brazil. We love Colombia, especially Medellin, and a return there is likely as well. There is still much of the western and southern parts of the country that we have not touched. What about Panamá and the islands in the Caribbean? Plenty left to do! Stay tuned for more details.
